ADVOCATE CEO'S POSITION TO
RACIAL REDLINING: MORE $$ FOR SUBURBAN HOSPITALS
June 22, 2005 --- Despite widespread public criticism,
Advocate is moving forward with plans to award an additional
$30 million to its prized suburban hospital, Good Shepherd,
in Barrington.
Funding for upgrades, expansion, and innovation at Good
Shepherd is nothing new. The state-of-the-art hospital has
benefited from $72 million in capital investments over the
last nine years with a new cutting-edge fitness facility and
renovated ER. In contrast, patients and workers at Bethany
hobble past outdated equipment, complain of lack of hot
water, blankets, and patient meals.
"Who Cares?" seems to be the resounding response from
Advocate CEO Jim Skogsbergh who has an additional $50
million slated for improvements at Advocate Good Samaritan,
another suburban hospital where the ICU was just outfitted
with new equipment and imported Danish tiles.
